Greetings!
The Dumbek aka Tabla, Darbukah, Derbekki or is a chalice drum traditionally played throughout North Africa and Eastern Europe. From its folk origins, use of the drum has gradually spread from farm and festival to the concert hall. Each region that plays the Dumbek has developed its own style on the drum, so it has many names, many sounds, and many rhythms. At heart, it's a party drum, and most often can be found at dance gatherings and drum circles.
This workshop is introductory, for the beginner or novice dumbek player, and all levels are welcome.
Intermediate/advanced
level dumbek players may want to inquire about private or semi-private
sessions.
The basic hits are easy, so we will be playing alot! Bring a dumbek or use the store's. The workshop will progress based on the needs of the group, and may cover:
Workshop Highlights:
-Basic technique/ hits on the drum
-Common rhythms of the Middle East/ Arabic,
Turkish, Balkan
